KATHMANDU, July 17: The entire country is currently under the influence of the monsoon system. Additionally, a low-pressure area around Uttar Pradesh, India, is also affecting weather conditions in Nepal. The monsoon trough is positioned near the average location, as per the Meteorological Forecasting Division (MFD).
At present, the skies across the country are generally cloudy. Light to moderate rainfall, along with thunder and lightning, is occurring in some areas of Gandaki Province, a few places in Bagmati and Lumbini Provinces, and isolated locations in other provinces.
Heavy rainfall forecast in Bagmati, several provinces

The MFD has forecast the skies to remain generally cloudy across the country in the afternoon. There is a possibility of light to moderate rain with thunder and lightning in many parts of Bagmati, Gandaki, Lumbini, Karnali, and Sudurpaschim Provinces, as well as in a few areas of the remaining provinces. Heavy rainfall is likely at one or two places in Bagmati, Gandaki, Lumbini, Karnali, and Sudurpaschim Provinces. Light to moderate rainfall or snowfall is expected in some high-hilly and mountainous areas. There is also a chance of windstorms in a few areas of the Tarai region in Lumbini and Sudurpaschim Provinces.
At night, the weather will remain partly to generally cloudy across the country. Light to moderate rainfall with thunder and lightning is likely in some hilly areas, including Koshi and Madhesh Provinces, and at a few other places elsewhere. Light to moderate rain or snowfall is possible in some high-hilly and mountainous areas. Strong winds are also possible in a few areas of the Terai region in Lumbini and Sudurpaschim Provinces.
The MFD has said there is a risk of soil erosion, floods, landslides and debris flow due to possible rainfall. The Terai regions may face waterlogging. Water levels may rise in major and minor rivers, rivulets, and streams. Daily life, agriculture, health, tourism, infrastructure near riverbanks, roads, and air transportation may be affected. Windstorms may also cause minor disruptions. The division has urged the general public and all concerned authorities to exercise caution and make necessary preparations.
