Forex update: Nepali rupee gains edge over US Dollar

The Nepali rupee showed strength against the US dollar on Thursday.

KATHMANDU, August 13: The Nepali rupee showed strength against the US dollar on Thursday, as Nepal Rastra Bank (NRB) set Thursday’s buying rate for one dollar at Rs. 139.61 and the selling rate at Rs. 140.21. This marks a drop from Wednesday’s rates of Rs. 140.05 (buying) and Rs. 140.65 (selling), giving importers a small reason to cheer.



According to the central bank, the buying rate for one European euro stands at Rs. 163.52, with the selling rate at Rs. 164.22. One pound sterling is being bought at Rs. 189.49 and sold at Rs. 190.30. The Swiss franc is priced at Rs. 173.69 for buying and Rs. 174.43 for selling, while the Australian dollar trades at Rs. 91.47 and Rs. 91.86, respectively. The Canadian dollar is valued at Rs. 101.46 for buying and Rs. 101.89 for selling, with the Singapore dollar close behind at Rs. 109.06 and Rs. 109.53.

The Japanese yen, per 10 units, is being bought at Rs. 9.46 and sold at Rs. 9.50. The Chinese yuan is set at Rs. 19.46 and Rs. 19.54, while the Saudi riyal trades at Rs. 37.21 and Rs. 37.37. The Qatari riyal is priced at Rs. 38.30 for buying and Rs. 38.47 for selling.


The Thai baht stands at Rs. 4.32 (buying) and Rs. 4.34 (selling), while the UAE dirham is priced at Rs. 38.01 and Rs. 38.17. The Malaysian ringgit trades at Rs. 33.18 and Rs. 33.32, and the South Korean won, per 100 units, at Rs. 10.12 and Rs. 10.17. The Swedish krona is valued at Rs. 14.66 and Rs. 14.73, while the Danish krone is at Rs. 21.91 and Rs. 22.01.


The Hong Kong dollar is being bought at Rs. 17.78 and sold at Rs. 17.86. The Kuwaiti dinar remains one of the most expensive currencies, trading at Rs. 457.00 for buying and Rs. 458.97 for selling. The Bahraini dinar stands at Rs. 370.29 and Rs. 371.89, while the Omani rial is priced at Rs. 362.62 and Rs. 364.18.


Similarly, the Indian rupee, per 100 units, is being bought at Rs. 160.00 and sold at Rs. 160.15, according to NRB.
