Youth arrested for stealing over Rs 10 million from 4,000 eSewa accounts

KATHMANDU, April 16: Police have arrested a 22-year-old man for allegedly stealing over Rs 10 million from the eSewa digital wallets of more than 4,000 users.



The suspect, identified as Rahul Budha of Kanchanpur, currently residing in Anamnagar, Kathmandu, was taken into custody by the Kathmandu Valley Crime Investigation Office (KVCIO).

According to Superintendent of Police (SP) Angur GC at the KVCIO, Budha tricked users by sending phishing links via SMS under names like “The Alert” and “AT Alert,” falsely claiming that their accounts were about to be suspended. By urging users to verify their accounts, he gained unauthorized access to their eSewa wallets.


Police revealed that Budha transferred the stolen funds, totaling Rs 10.2 million, into merchant accounts under the name Pashupati Global Innovation Pvt Ltd.


He was arrested from Kalimati, Kathmandu on April 15 and has been sent to the District Police Range Office, Bhadrakali for further investigation and legal proceedings.
