KATHMANDU, April 17: A 22-year-old boy has been arrested for allegedly stealing millions of rupees from eSewa by sending a ‘phishing link’.
Police arrested 22-year-old Rahul Budha, a native of Krishna Municipality-1 in Kanchanpur and currently residing in Anamnagar, Kathmandu, for stealing money from eSewa using a phishing link. He sent links via SMS to various individuals, warned them about potential account suspension, and instructed them to click the link for verification. Once victims clicked the link, he gained unauthorized access to their eSewa accounts and fraudulently transferred the funds.

Superintendent of Police Angur GC, spokesperson for the Kathmandu Valley Crime Investigation Office, said that Rahul Budha transferred over Rs 10.2 million from the eSewa balances of more than 4,000 individuals into the account of Pashupati Global Innovation Pvt. Ltd.
Police arrested him in Kalimati, Kathmandu, and the Crime Investigation Office made the case public on Wednesday. GC said they handed him over to the District Police Range, Kathmandu, the same day for further investigation and legal action.
