SPORTS BRIEFS: Tusal stuns Madhyapur

KATHMANDU, April 5: Madhyapur Youth Association suffered its first defeat in the Red Bull B Division National League on Thursday at Buddhibikash ground, Lagankhel. Tusal Youth Club beat second placed Madhayapur 1-0 through the goal of Shyam Babu Magar. Magar scored in the 20th minute of the game.



Despite the loss, Madhyapur is still on the second position of the league table with 10 points. [break]Sankata Club leads the points table with 13 points. In another match on Thursday, Dipendra Kumar Chaudhary scored a hat-trick to guide Kasturi Yuva Club of Siraha to a 4-1 victory over Trinity Club from Syangja.



Kasturi took lead through the goal of Amrit Kumar Chaudhary in the second minute. Ajay BK leveled the score in the fourth minute. However Dipendra Kumar Chaudhary scored in the 27th, 61st and 82nd minute to seal the victory.



Kasturi has eight points and the fourth position while Trinity is on the rock bottom of the points table with three points.



Golden Jubilee Cup postponed

KATHMANDU: Nirvana Country Club Health and Golf Resort postponed the Golden Jubilee Cup golf tournament for an indefinite period. The event was scheduled for March 7 to commemorate 50 years of golf in Dharan. The organizers informed that they would announce fresh date as soon as possible. Nirvana Country Club, previously known as Dharan Country Club was established in 1962 by British Gorkha Army Regiment in Ghopa Camp, Dharan.



German coach donates football gear

KATHMANDU: German football coach Joseph Ruckgawor donated football gear worth Rs 230,000 to All Nepal Football Association (ANFA) amid a function held at ANFA Complex, Satdobato, Lalitpur on Thursday. Henning Hansen, official at the German embassy in Kathmandu, handed over the football gear to ANFA President Ganesh Thapa. Ruckgawor, who has been coaching amateur footballers in Germany, had donated football gear last year too, according to ANFA Vice-president Narendra Shrestha.



NeCOS women´s basketball from Sunday

KATHMANDU: The second edition of NeCOS Open Women´s National Basketball Championship will kick off from Sunday at the covered hall of the Dasharath Stadium. The championship is the highest cash prize tournament in women´s basketball Nepal. Altogether 12 teams will participate in the championship. Teams from Sunsari, Morang, Kavre, Kaski and Chitwan will compete with seven teams from the valley, informed the organizers on Thursday.



The winner of the championship will bag a purse of Rs 60,000 while the second, third and fourth position holders will receive Rs 30,000, Rs 20,000 and Rs 10,000 respectively. The most-valuable-player, fair play team and inspiring team will receive Rs 10,000 each.
