Dhiraj Shrestha scored a brace for Tusal in the 45th and 78th minutes to take his goals tally to three in the league. Earlier, Dipesh Shrestha had given a 15th minute lead to Tusal. [break]
Following the result, Tusal moved one spot up to the second position with seven points, two points behind leader Boys Union Club after playing three matches each. Third-placed Shree Kumari is level on points with Tusal but is behind on the basis of goal difference. Meanwhile, Kathmandu, which lies in the 12th position following its third defeat in a row, is yet to open its account in the points table.
In another match, Samajik Youth Club and Mahabir Studies and Athletics Association shared points after playing a 0-0 draw. Mahabir jumped two spots up to fifth with four points in its kitty while Samajik lies in the sixth place with four points.
There will be three matches on Tuesday with Birgunj Youth Academy taking on United Youth Club, Shree Kumari taking on Swayambhu Club and Satdobato playing against Brigade Boys Club.
Prime, Whitehouse triumph
KATHMANDU: Prime and Whitehouse won their respective boys´ basketball matches on Monday during the HISSAN Sports and Extra Curricular Activities under way in the capital. Prime defeated Omega 31-17 and Whitehouse eased past Caribbean 45-25. In other matches, GoldenGate crushed NIST 79-17 and Global beat Nepal Mega 32-13.
Daffodil, Innovative reach semis
KATHMANDU: Daffodil and Innovative advanced into the semifinals of senior girls´ section on Monday in the 11th Gyan Niketan Inter-school Basketball Tournament being held in the capital. Daffodil overcame Neric 20-12 with eight points from Chhetan Lama. Innovative edged past host Gyan Niketan 17-12 riding on 12 points from Trishna Khatri. Under the senior boys´ section, Neric and Innovative entered the quarterfinals winning their respective matches. Neric toiled hard to beat Cambridge 45-43 while Innovative outplayed Deneb 42-25. Binod Bhandari (16 points) of Neric and Sudip Shrestha (12 points) of Innovative were the highest scorers. In another match of the same category, Alok Lamsal netted 14 points as Greenland defeated Babylon 30-23.
U-14 basketball qualifiers begin
KATHMANDU: The qualifying rounds of north zone for the 2nd U-14 Inter-school National Basketball Championship kicked off in the capital on Monday. Bhadrakali defeated Newton Children´s Academy 18-12 with eight points from Sandip. Sagar Sapkota netted 14 points to help Florence defeat Sapta Gandaki 23-14. Brihaspati defeated Forward 31-15 and Rehdon defeated Bagmati 24-15. Mingma Sherpa contributed 15 points for Brihaspati and Bivek Shrestha netted 14 points for Rehdon. Kathmandu and Lalitpur districts have been divided into four zones for the championship, with the north zone comprising 24 teams.
NSC forms new department
KATHMANDU: National Sports Council (NSC) has formed a new department under it to look after school sports and appointed one of its senior officers, Kul Bahadur Thapa, as the department chief. The NSC board meeting last month had decided to form the School Sports Development Department to focus on the school level for the development of sports in the country. Thapa is also the spokesperson of NSC.
