KATHMANDU, Dec 13: The Supreme Court (SC) has made written correspondence with the Secretariat of the Non-Resident Nepali Association (NRNA), asking the latter not to obstruct the unity convention of the NRNA. In a letter sent to the NRNA Secretariat at Baluwatar, the SC has also demanded the reason for the fact that the office has been closed instead of providing assistance to hold the convention.
The decision made by a joint bench of the SC on April 3, 2024 was related to the issue of the NRNA holding a parallel convention in mid-March 2022 and selecting a parallel working committee.
NRNA Unity Convention concludes
The 10th General Convention held at that time had declared that Kul Acharya, Rabina Thapa, and Badri KC would each serve as president for one year each. However, they had announced another committee under the chairmanship of Binod Kunwar.
After the SC ordered the dissolution of both the working committees, asking the NRNA to hold elections for the advisory committee within six months, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs sent a letter to the Secretariat of the International Coordination Council (ICC) of the NRNA. According to the said order, the SC has instructed to facilitate the unity convention under the leadership of former NRNA president Shesh Ghale within six months.
