KATHMANDU, Sept 11: The Supreme Court (SC) has decided to resume regular hearings on habeas corpus petitions from September 14.. The decision was made during an emergency full bench meeting.
All hearings across the country, including at the SC, had been halted since September 9 following arson attacks by protesters. The fire destroyed significant judicial records, but the court emphasized its commitment to fulfilling constitutional responsibilities.

In a statement, the SC said that despite the near-total destruction of crucial documents in Nepal’s judicial history, it remains determined to safeguard sovereignty, constitutionalism, rule of law, fundamental rights, and citizens’ right to justice. The court assured that it would restore operations at the earliest to meet the public’s expectations of justice.
