KATHMANDU, April 2: The Supreme Court (SC) has issued a show-cause order in response to a writ filed against the appointment of Sharad Ojha as the Chairman of the Nepal Insurance Authority (NIA).

After a hearing on the writ, a single bench of Justice Nahakul Subedi issued the show-cause order on Wednesday, calling both the petitioner and the respondents for further discussions.

The writ, challenging Ojha's appointment, was filed by Advocate Indira Dhimal on March 30, naming the Prime Minister’s Office, the Ministry of Finance, the Recommendation Committee, NIA, and Sharad Ojha as respondents.

The Council of Ministers' meeting on February 24 had decided to appoint Sharad Ojha as the NIA Chairman.

Ojha, who lacks high-level managerial experience, has been accused of being appointed under the influence of interest groups. A complaint has even been filed against him earlier at the Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA).
