SC grants bail of Rs 3.5 million to Madhav Nepal in Patanjali land case

KATHMANDU, June 25: The Special Court has granted bail of Rs 3.5 million to former Prime Minister and CPN (Unified Socialist) Chairman Madhav Kumar Nepal in the Patanjali land scam case.

On June 5, the Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) filed a corruption case against Nepal and 93 others over the alleged transaction of land in Kavre that was under land ceiling exemption and registered in the name of Patanjali Yogpeeth and Ayurvedic Company Nepal during his tenure as Prime Minister in 2009.


In Nepal’s case, a fine and punishment equivalent to Rs 185.85 million in losses has been demanded.


Following the filing of the corruption case, he was suspended from his position as a lawmaker. 


Meanwhile, the Unified Socialist has called the Secretariat meeting for June 27 to discuss the issue as well.
