KATHMANDU, Aug 28: Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) leader Arnico Panday, who was arrested by the Nepal Police on Wednesday, has been sent to four days of judicial custody.

SP Deepak Raj Awasthi of the Cyber Bureau of Nepal Police told Republica that the Kathmandu District Court allowed police to keep him in custody for further investigation.

Panday, also a former member of the National Planning Commission, was charged with ‘character assassination’ of a woman via the social media platform WhatsApp and through email.

“He is accused of sending lewd messages, harassing and verbally abusing a woman via WhatsApp and email,” said SP Awasthi. The woman had filed the charge sheet with the Bureau via email.

Police arrested him on Wednesday, acting on the complaint.

Police produced Panday before the court through the Kathmandu District Government Attorney for further processing.

Interestingly, a similar case involving leader Ain Mahar of the ruling CPN-UML occurred at the same bureau on the same day. Mahar was presented to the court the same day and walked free on a general date; however, Panday is being presented before the court only on Thursday.
