KATHMANDU, Sep 13: Chairman of Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) Rabi Lamichhane, who had left the Nakkhu jail by presenting a counterfeited letter from the prison management, returned to the prison on Saturday evening.
Lamichhane is in judicial custody in connection with the cooperative fraud case. He had left Nakkhu Prison on September 9 during the Gen Z protests, citing security reasons.
The prison management was forced to allow him free after hundreds of his supporters reached there to exert pressure on the outnumbered security personnel who were targeted by the protestors.

Before returning back to prison, Lamichhane said in a video message that he won’t accuse any government official for trying to frame him. He said that he was returning to prison on his birthday itself as a gift to himself.
“The previous government sought extreme political revenge against me and destroyed my life. Today, the symbol of justice herself has become the Prime Minister of this country. With the hope that injustice will no longer continue, I am going back to prison,” Lamichhane said.
Lalitpur Police Spokesperson Chakraraj Joshi confirmed that Lamichhane had already returned to Nakkhu Prison on Saturday.
Lamichhane had claimed that he was released through due process and made public a release letter signed by Prison Administrator Satyaraj Joshi, who later refused to take ownership of the letter citing that he didn’t know ‘anything’ about it.
Later, the prison management issued a stern notice for all absconding inmates including Lamichhane to return to the prison or face additional charges. It also said that the prison management reserves the right to take necessary measures if they do not return to the prison.
