KATHMANDU, Sept 22: The government has opened route permits for passenger public transport across the country starting today to ensure smoother travel during the upcoming festival season, according to Bijay Bahadur Swar, president of the Federation of Nepalese National Transport Entrepreneurs (FNNTE).

With the permits open, public vehicles can now operate to their destinations without obtaining a specific route permit. However, restrictions will remain in place for certain types of vehicles on routes where their operation is deemed unsuitable due to road conditions or other factors.

The temporary permit relaxation will remain effective until October 8. Passengers are still required to purchase tickets when traveling on public vehicles, the FNNTE said.
