KAPILVASTU, Sept 2: The Room to Read has established libraries in 48 schools across three rural municipalities in Kapilvastu on the occasion of the 18th National Library Day. Of these, 33 libraries are already operational, while the remaining 15 are being set up in collaboration with the local municipalities, Room to Read said in a press release.

The initiative aligns with this year’s Library Day slogan declared by the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology: “Our Library: Our Future”. Through these libraries, Room to Read aims to promote quality education and literacy in Nepal, the press release further stated.

The primary objective of establishing these libraries is to develop a reading culture among children. The libraries are designed to be child-friendly, providing access to age-appropriate, interest-based, and learning-style-specific picture books. This initiative is expected to enhance reading habits and literacy levels, particularly among children from low-income communities, the press release said.
