President honors MMA fighter Rabindra Dhant, calls on govt to safeguard athletes’ future

He made the remarks during a felicitation ceremony held at the President’s Office in Sheetal Niwas on Tuesday to honor MMA fighter Rabindra Dhant, who recently won the title at the 'Matrix Fight Night' competition in India.

KATHMANDU, Aug 6 : President Ramchandra Paudel has urged the government to take concrete steps to ensure athletes have a secure future within the sports sector.



He made the remarks during a felicitation ceremony held at the President’s Office in Sheetal Niwas on Tuesday to honor MMA fighter Rabindra Dhant, who recently won the title at the 'Matrix Fight Night' competition in India.


President Paudel emphasized that the government must focus on the development of sports and the recognition of athletes, who help elevate Nepal’s image on the global stage. “Only when athletes are given opportunities to compete and train abroad, along with the necessary facilities and respect, can they achieve records and bring pride to the nation,” he said.

Lauding Dhant’s victory, President Paudel said that his achievement earned through skill, strength, and dedication, has become a matter of national pride. Dhant is widely known by his nickname, “The Tiger of Bajhang.”


President Paudel also highlighted the importance of sports in the physical, mental, and overall personality development of individuals. “I trust that the government and relevant authorities will work more effectively in advancing the sports sector in the coming days,” he said.
