KATHMANDU, July 18: Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) has announced that a total of 16,137 students will be eligible to sit for the entrance examination for scholarships in institutional schools for Grades XI and XII for the academic session 2025/26. Out of the 17,229 applications received from all 77 districts across the country, 16,137 students have been shortlisted.

According to Laxmi Paudel, Education Officer at the KMC Education Department, 1,092 applications were rejected due to the absence of required documents such as citizenship or birth certificate revealing identity, proof of studying at a public school, evidence of receiving a scholarship in an institutional school, or proof of permanent residency within KMC.

The scholarship entrance exam is scheduled for July 19, from 8:00 to 10:00 AM. The exam will be based on the Grade X curriculum, with 30 multiple-choice questions each from compulsory Mathematics, Science, and English, and 10 questions from General Knowledge — totaling 100 questions. Students must score at least 40 percent to pass the exam.

Following the publication of results, scholarships will be awarded based on the merit list. KMC stated that this program aims to provide academically capable yet financially disadvantaged students the opportunity to study in their preferred institutional schools and receive quality education in Grades XI and XII.

Through this initiative, which KMC has made mandatory, the metropolis believes it is working to make quality education more accessible and secure a brighter academic future for students.
