Nepal also bagged 12 silver and 11 bronze medals in the matches played at Dasharath Stadium´s covered hall.
India stands in the second position with seven gold, three silver and four bronze medals. In the first day of the tournament, players fought for 15 medals in the patron category.
Soni Khadka (blue belt), Anusha Shrestha (red belt), Tulasi Thapa Magar (black belt first dan), Tulasa Rajthala (black belt second dan), Ram Bahadhur Gharti (green belt) and Krishna Tamang (red belt) were among the Nepali players who won gold in the first day.
Altogether 192 players from India, Bangladesh and Nepal are competing in the tournament in 86 different categories. Prime Minister Jhalanath Khanal inaugurated the championship.
“Nepal can promote the Visit Nepal 2011 program through the tournament,” PM Khanal said. The championship will be held for three days.
