The incident led to a clash between the police and the Maoists in which eight policemen and the same number Maoists were injured. The injured included Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Uttam Subedi, Assistant Sub Inspector Debi Basyal and Constable Narayan Bhandari. Similarly, Maoist student leader Subash Poudel and cadres Shiva Parajuli and Om Sharu were also injured. Parajuli has been taken to Pokhara for treatment while other were being treated in Putalibazar.
The irate Maoists closed the district headquarters following the clash between the police and the Maoists since afternoon.
Pokharel reached the district headquarters on Tuesday morning to inaugurate Syangja FM.
A few days ago, protesting Maoist cadres pelted stones at the prime minister´s motorcade during Indra Jatra festival in the capital. The Maoists have announced the boycott of all programs involving the president and the prime minister and his colleagues.
DSP Subedi said that the clash ensued after the Maoist hurled stones at the minister´s vehicle.
Minister Pokharel returned Kathmandu following the incident though he was supposed to attend a program of his party.
