Speaking to journalists after the meeting, the party’s spokesperson and vice-chair, Agni Sapkota, said the party decided that Minister Lekhak should resign to pave the way for a transparent inquiry, since questions have been raised and the concerned authorities have already started an investigation.
He said, “Officials from the Home Ministry are involved in the visit visa case. There have been demands for the Home Minister’s resignation on moral grounds from all sides, including within the Nepali Congress itself. Our party meeting has also concluded that Lekhak should resign to clear the way for an investigation.”
The Maoist Center is set to raise this issue in Tuesday’s meeting of the House of Representatives. Another opposition party, the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP), has already demanded Home Minister Lekhak’s resignation.
