Mahakali River swells, four-wheelers banned from Sharada Barrage

KANCHANPUR, June 29: Authorities have suspended the movement of four-wheeled vehicles across the Sharada Barrage after water levels in the Mahakali River rose significantly due to continuous rainfall.



According to Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Sagar Bohara, spokesperson for the District Police Office, the flow in the river reached 115,000 cusecs, surpassing the 100,000 cusec threshold that triggers vehicular restrictions at the barrage.

“Once the Mahakali’s flow exceeds 100,000 cusecs, vehicle movement is halted for safety. Today, the flow reached 115,000 cusecs,” Bohara said.


The Department of Hydrology and Meteorology has forecast continued heavy rainfall across many parts of Sudurpaschim Province until Asar 16 and has urged residents and travelers to remain alert.
