KATHMANDU, Sep 22: The government has appointed Tekendra Karki as the Chief of the National Investigation Department (NID), the intelligence arm of the government.
The decision was made during the Cabinet meeting held on Sunday, which assigned Karki—previously the Additional Chief Investigation Director—to the role of department head.

Earlier on September 13, Hutaraj Thapa was sent into mandatory retirement. After his departure, the position had remained vacant and Karki has now been appointed to fill it.
Karki entered the intelligence service (1996 A.D as an Investigation Officer.
There was speculation about possibilities of appointing Om Prakash Joshi as the chief as he was also eligible for the post. Joshi is known inside the organization for his managerial aspect of work while Karki is better known for his investigative work.
