KATHMANDU, July 21: Vice President of India, Jagdeep Dhankhar, has announced his resignation from the post, citing health concerns and the need to follow medical advice. His resignation took effect immediately upon submission on Monday, in accordance with Article 67(a) of the Constitution.
In his resignation letter addressed to President Droupadi Murmu, Dhankhar said he was stepping down to “prioritise health care and abide by medical advice.” He also conveyed his gratitude to the President, Prime Minister, and Members of Parliament for their support during his tenure.

The 74-year-old Dhankhar had been serving as Vice President since 2022 and was also the Chairman of the Rajya Sabha. His term was set to run until 2027. Prior to this, he served as the Governor of West Bengal from 2019 to 2022.
His resignation coincided with the opening day of the Monsoon Session of Parliament.
