KATHMANDU, Sept 12: India has welcomed the formation of Nepal’s new interim government led by former Chief Justice Sushila Karki, expressing hope that the political transition will help foster peace and stability in the Himalayan nation.
In a statement issued on Friday, India's Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said, “We welcome the formation of a new Interim Government in Nepal, led by Right Honourable Mrs Sushila Karki. We are hopeful that this would help in fostering peace and stability.”

The statement further emphasized India’s commitment to continue supporting Nepal during the transition. “As a close neighbour, a fellow democracy and a long-term development partner, India will continue to work closely with Nepal for the well-being and prosperity of our two peoples and countries,” it read.
Karki, who was Nepal’s first female Chief Justice, assumed leadership of the interim government following an agreement among major political parties and representatives of the Gen Z movement that spearheaded recent protests.
