High Court acquits former NC MP Aftab Alam

The District Court of Rautahat found him guilty and sentenced him to life imprisonment, but the High Court Janakpur acquitted him, Registrar Deepak Bhandari said.

KATHMANDU, May 28: The bench of High Court in Janakpur and Birgunj acquitted former Nepali Congress  (NC) MP Aftab Alam, who was accused of killing a person by bomb explosion.



The District Court of Rautahat found him guilty and sentenced him to life imprisonment, but the High Court Janakpur acquitted him, Registrar Deepak Bhandari said.

Bhandari also mentioned that the written copy of the acquittal verdict has not yet been received.


Alam had been convicted for killing some people by burning them in a brick kiln in Rajpur, Rautahat on the night before the Constituent Assembly election, on April 9, 2008.


Twelve years after the incident, the Rautahat police arrested Alam on October 9, 2019.


Alam was accused of killing injured persons including Trilok Pratap Singh and Oshi Akhtar by burning them alive in the brick kiln while making bombs at the house of his uncle, Sheikh Indris.
