Aftab Alam suffers stroke, hospitalized

Former minister Mohammad Aftab Alam has been admitted to Annapurna Neurological Institute and Allied Sciences after suffering an acute ischemic stroke early Thursday morning.

KATHMANDU, May 31:  Former minister Mohammad Aftab Alam has been admitted to Annapurna Neurological Institute and Allied Sciences after suffering an acute ischemic stroke early Thursday morning.



According to an official statement released by the hospital, Alam was brought to the emergency department at around 7:00 AM after experiencing slurred speech and weakness on one side of his body, both classic symptoms of a stroke. Upon arrival, doctors conducted a physical examination, blood tests, and an MRI, confirming the diagnosis.

Medical professionals promptly administered tissue plasminogen activator (TPA), a clot-busting medication used in the emergency treatment of ischemic strokes. Following the intervention, Alam's condition has shown gradual improvement, the hospital confirmed.


He is currently receiving close medical attention in the hospital's Intensive Care Unit (ICU) under the supervision of a team of specialist neurologists.


The hospital has requested all well-wishers and media personnel to treat the official press release as the authorized source of information regarding Alam's condition.


Alam, a controversial political figure and former lawmaker, remains under observation, and further updates will be provided as his treatment progresses.
