KATHMANDU, July 21: The country is currently under the influence of monsoon winds. As the monsoon trough lies slightly north of its average position, partly cloudy to generally cloudy weather is expected across the country on Monday.
According to the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology (DHM), there is a chance of light to moderate rain accompanied by thunder and lightning at some places in Lumbini, Karnali, and Sudurpaschim provinces, as well as in some hilly regions and a few areas in the remaining parts of the country. There is also a possibility of heavy rainfall at one or two places in Bagmati, Gandaki, Lumbini, and Sudurpaschim provinces. Likewise, light to moderate rain or snowfall is likely at some places in the high-hilly and mountainous regions.
Heavy rainfall likely in some provinces today
Similarly, partly cloudy to generally cloudy weather is expected across the country tonight as well. There is a possibility of light to moderate rain accompanied by thunder and lightning at some places in Koshi, Madhesh, Bagmati, Gandaki, and Lumbini provinces, as well as in hilly regions and other parts of the country. The DHM has stated that one or two places in Gandaki Province may also witness heavy rainfall.
Given the risks of floods, landslides, and debris flows, the Division has urged residents in the urban and Terai regions to take precautions and safety measures. It has been reported that water levels in large and small rivers and streams may rise, potentially impacting daily life, agriculture, health, tourism, and transportation, including road and air traffic, in areas near rivers.
