Health Minister submits insurance reform plan to PM

Minister Paudel said that efforts are underway to improve health insurance and expand the insurance cover from the present Rs 100,000 to Rs 500,000. The report includes measures to achieve this target.

KATHMANDU, Jan 29: Minister for Health and Population, Pradip Paudel, has presented the action plan for health insurance reform to the prime minister.



Based on the issues outlined in the Health Insurance Reform Suggestion Task Force report, Minister Paudel had instructed drafting an action plan under the leadership of Additional Secretary Dr Dipendra Raman Singh. After receiving the task force’s report, Minister Paudel submitted it to the prime minister on Tuesday.

According to Minister Paudel's secretariat, the Council of Ministers will decide on health insurance reform based on the action plan.


Minister Paudel said that efforts are underway to improve health insurance and expand the insurance cover from the present Rs 100,000 to Rs 500,000. The report includes measures to achieve this target.


If the report is approved by the Council of Ministers, Minister Paudel plans to initiate an amendment to the Health Insurance Act.
