Speaking at a press conference organized by Press Chautari Dang, Pokharel said that when a person who has served as the Army Chief re-enters party politics, it increases the risk of spreading distrust towards the republic. The former president is the guardian of the constitution and has served as the Army Chief. Pokharel said, “If she returns to active politics, it will create distrust and lack of confidence in the republic. Political parties must not make such a mistake.”
He further stated that the CPN (Maoist Center) erred by bringing the former Vice President Nanda Bahadur Pun back into active politics. While criticizing the Maoist Center, he said that since the Maoists are still learning democracy, CPN-UML and Nepali Congress (NC) should guide them on democratic practices. He also suggested that the Maoist Center should reconsider its decision to bring the vice president back into politics.
