Daily turnover records one-year high at Rs 26.57 billion as NEPSE slides 18.44 points

Daily turnover at the Nepal Stock Exchange (NEPSE) on Sunday hit Rs 26.57 billion, the highest amount in the past one year.

KATHMANDU, July 27: Daily turnover at the Nepal Stock Exchange (NEPSE) on Sunday hit Rs 26.57 billion, the highest amount in the past one year.



Despite the market shedding 18.44 points in the intraday trading and closing at 2,964.20 points, it posted an impressive single day turnover. Last time on August 18, 2024, the daily turnover was recorded at Rs 28.83 billion.  


The secondary market opened at 2,982.64 points and gradually escalated to the day’s high at 3,013.18 points in the first two hours. This was the highest mark that the secondary market reached in the past four years.

The index however plunged to the day’s low at 2,959.81 points in the next one and half hours, after investors rushed to book the profits. The market recovered around five points in the remaining period before it closed for the day. 


Five out of the 13 trading groups were the gainers as manufacturing and processing led the segment by adding 84.77 points. Of the eight losers, life insurance shed the largest of 195.23 points.


The sensitive index which measures the performance of ‘A’ class companies decreased 3.26 points. The daily turnover increased by Rs 8.08 billion compared to Rs 18.49 billion on Thursday, the last trading day of the last week. 


Among the individual companies, 63 were gainers while 186 were recorded as the losers. Shivam Cements had the largest turnover of its shares worth Rs 1.02 billion.


Two companies including Samata Gharelu Laghubitta Bittiya Sanstha Limited and Trade Tower Limited were topmost gainers. Narayani Development Bank lost the highest of 6.34 percent of its market value.
