KATHMANDU, Sept 9: The Chief Secretary and heads of Nepal’s security agencies have issued a public appeal urging citizens to exercise restraint following nationwide Gen Z protests that have turned deadly.
In a joint statement, Eknarayan Aryal, Chief Secretary of the Government of Nepal; Ashok Raj Sigdel, Chief of Army Staff; Gokarnmani Duwaadi, Home Secretary; Raju Aryal, Inspector General of the Armed Police Force; Chandra Kuver Khapung, Inspector General of Nepal Police; and Hutaraj Thapa, Chief Investigation Director of the National Investigation Department, expressed deep condolences for the at least 19 people who have died and extended sympathy to their families. Hundreds more have been injured during demonstrations in Kathmandu and other parts of the country.

The officials noted significant damage to public and private property during the protests, which erupted following widespread anger over government actions and the recent crackdown on Gen Z demonstrators. With the resignation of the Prime Minister already accepted, the statement urged citizens to maintain calm to prevent further casualties and property damage, while calling on all stakeholders to resolve the situation through peaceful political dialogue.
