KATHMANDU, June 6: One of the two divers who went missing in the Saptakoshi River has been found dead.


Assistant Spokesperson of the Armed Police Force, DSP Shailendra Thapa, informed that the body of the missing diver, Hardev Rajbanshi, was recovered.

According to DSP Thapa, Hardev's body was found about three kilometers south of the incident site. The search for the other missing person is ongoing.


On Thursday afternoon, during a provincial-level disaster simulation exercise as a monsoon preparedness measure in the Koshi River at Hanumannagar Kankalini Municipality-1 of Saptari, two Armed Police Force divers, Suraj Saud and Hardev Rajbanshi, went missing.


Both had completed diver training in the years 2023 and 2024 and had been deployed in various rescue operations since then.


DSP Thapa said that security forces deployed 35 personnel for the search operation, including four divers from the Dantakali Special Training School in Saptari under a DSP’s command and 20 disaster management-trained personnel from No. 6 Battalion Saptari under another DSP’s command.


For further search and rescue, the Armed Police Force Nepal Disaster Management Training School in Kurintar sent five experienced divers to the area Thursday night under the command of DSP Purushottam Bhandari.
