14 aspirants applied for the NIA chairperson

The government received applications from 14 aspirants for the position of chairman of the Nepal Insurance Authority (NIA).

KATHMANDU, Sept 6: The government received applications from 14 aspirants for the position of chairman of the Nepal Insurance Authority (NIA).



According to the Ministry of Finance (MoF), Ghanashyam Budhathoki of Lalitpur, Vikrant Pandey of Kathmandu, Paras Kafle of Bhaktapur, Bishnu Babu Mishra of Kathmandu, Buddha Kaji Shrestha of Kathmandu, Damodar Basaula of Kaski, Chintamani Shiwakoti of Kathmandu, Gyanendra Adhikari of Jhapa and Dev Kumar Dhakal of Morang, have forwarded their applications for the position.

Likewise, Prof Deepak Bahadur Bhandari of Lamjung, Rajendra Pandit of Kathmandu, Yagya Prasad Neupane of Dang, Ramesh Kumar Bhattarai of Kathmandu and Maheshwor Neupane of Bhaktapur are among the applicants.


Issuing a seven-day deadline, the MoF had invited applications for the NIA chief after the dismissal of former NIA chairperson Sharad Ojha. Ojha was found guilty of presenting fraudulent documents for his appointment. Ojha faced a writ petition at the Supreme Court, while the Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) also grilled him on the case. 


The recommendation committee led by Vice-Chairperson of the National Planning Commission Prof Shivraj Adhikari proposed the government with the lists of candidates for a new NIA chairperson. Finance Secretary Ghanshyam Upadhyay and expert member Khomraj Kharel are also part of the committee.
