Youth who fell into Kaligandaki river rescued alive

A 20-year-old man who fell into the Kaligandaki River from an under-construction suspension bridge in Thasang Rural Municipality-2, Mustang, was rescued alive.

MUSTANG, July 22: A 20-year-old man who fell into the Kaligandaki River from an under-construction suspension bridge in Thasang Rural Municipality-2, Mustang, was rescued alive.



The youth, Pemba Sherpa of Thasang-1, Tukuche, fell from the 570-meter-long bridge that is being built to connect Khanti and Sauru villages. According to Inspector Bikash Khatri of District Police Office, Mustang, Sherpa fell into the river while transporting goods toward Sauru as the bridge had not yet been fenced on both sides.

Sherpa was rescued by a joint team of police personnel from Kowang Police Post and health workers from Thasang Rural Municipality. Although he sustained injuries to his face and various parts of his body, he was rescued safely, said Health Coordinator Nanda Lal Dhakal.


Due to the prompt response, rescuers were able to save him in time. Sherpa has been taken to Lete Primary Health Center and preparations are underway to airlift him to Pokhara’s Manipal Teaching Hospital for further treatment.
