KATHMANDU, SEP 8: Hundreds of young people, including members of Gen Z, gathered around the Baneshwor area near the federal parliament on Monday to protest against the ongoing social media ban and corruption. Some of the protesters managed to break into the federal parliament building.
Youngsters from different walks of life — some even in college uniforms and carrying school bags — had assembled in the area from early morning. Police, initially refraining from the use of force, allowed the crowd to gather around the building, particularly near the western gate and the southern main gate .

Barricades had been set up to separate the restricted zone, but protesters soon pushed through and broke them. A group of agitated youths forcefully opened the gate, with some managing to enter the premises.
Police responded with water cannons and baton charges to disperse the crowd. Protesters retaliated by hurling paper, broken tree branches, and water bottles at the police. Throughout the confrontation, demonstrators continued chanting various slogans against the government.
