KATHMANDU, May 1: Prime Minister and CPN-UML Chairman KP Sharma Oli on Wednesday said that not only is labour respected, but the future of workers in Nepal is now secure.

Extending greetings on the occasion of International Workers’ Day, Oli credited the workers for the country’s progress and society’s sustenance. “Nepal has moved forward due to the sweat of its workers and the dedication they show every day,” he said.

Referring to the contribution-based Social Security Scheme launched a few years ago, Oli said the initiative was initially met with scepticism and mockery. “We endured sarcasm and trolling when we introduced the scheme, but today, more than 2 million workers have placed their trust in it. It’s not just their labour—workers’ futures are now secured,” he said.

The prime minister also claimed that the government has made significant improvements in the lives of workers and their families. “A bright smile on children’s faces, and a life free of fear for parents—that’s the change we are bringing. Let us honour labour, let us honour the workers. Long live the workers, long live the nation,” he added.
