By REPUBLICA

KATHMANDU, Sep 23: A 25‑year‑old man named Shrawan Sah hurled acid at his sister‑in‑law, 22‑year‑old Ragini Devi Sah, over a dispute about Rs 1,000 in Dhobiari area of Biratnagar Metropolitan City -9.

The victim, Ragini, who was able to ‘narrowly’ avoid the attack, suffered some minor injuries in her face. Police said it was extremely lucky to ward off the hit.

DSP Kopila Chudal of the District Police Office Morang said, “Some dots of burns from acid are visible in her face and is recovering well at a nearby hospital.”

According to Ujjwal Bikram Thapa an activist against acid attack said although the victim didn’t suffer much, the incident shows people’s insensitivity about such deplorable acts.

The dispute erupted about Rs 1,000. Shrawan had asked his sister‑in‑law for Rs 3,000; she gave Rs 2,000 at once, but because the remaining Rs 1,000 was not paid, the disagreement escalated into violence.

Shrawan has also reportedly threatened to kill his brother, husband of Ragini.

After the incident, the accused, Shrawan Sah, allegedly fled the scene after the attack. Police say they are conducting a search for him and asked the family members to file the case against Shrawan.
