Veteran writer and journalist Khanal passes away

Khanal, who wrote under the pseudonym 'Dirghabahu,' was known for his espionage novels and his literary works include Murkutta Las, Major ko Sarpa, Bikhalu Ichchhapatra, Chha Aunle Manchhe, Bahra Bajeko Ghanti and Panko Gulam.

KATHMANDU, Jan 16: Veteran writer and journalist Shreedhar Khanal passed away on Thursday at the age of 94.



Khanal, who wrote under the pseudonym 'Dirghabahu,' was known for his espionage novels and his literary works include Murkutta Las, Major ko Sarpa, Bikhalu Ichchhapatra, Chha Aunle Manchhe, Bahra Bajeko Ghanti and Panko Gulam.

His comedy works such as Namari Sansar Dekhinna, Ullibilli and Chatyang Chutung, have also gained widespread popularity in Nepali literature, according to Dr Ramesh Chandra Neupane, who has studied Khanal's literary works. Khanal was celebrated for his fearless journalism.


He is survived by his daughter and three sons, including youngest Brajesh Khanal, who is also a renowned writer.


The last rites of the late Khanal are scheduled to be held later Thursday at Pashupati Aryaghat, according to family sources.
