Veteran cardiac surgeon Ramesh Koirala resigns from Gangalal after 25 years

KATHMANDU, Aug 13: Dr. Ramesh Koirala, Senior Consultant Cardiac Surgeon and Head of the Cardiovascular Department at Shahid Gangalal National Heart Centre, Bansbari, has resigned from his position after 25 years of service.



Currently abroad, Dr. Koirala announced his resignation via the social media platform X, citing personal reasons. In his post on Wednesday, he stated that his resignation would take effect from October 16, 2025 (Asoj 30, 2082 BS).

“As I am presently overseas and unable to be at the centre before October 16, I request that my resignation be approved with effect from Asoj 30, 2082, and that the Board of Directors be informed,” he wrote in his resignation letter addressed to the Executive Director.


Reflecting on his departure, Dr. Koirala posted on X: “Suddenly leaving my skills, country, and profession does leave a bitter feeling, but I still have the thought of returning in a different role. By then, I may no longer be a surgeon. My salute to my family members who believe me when I say I might even run my household one day by driving a rickshaw.”


Dr. Koirala arrived in the US on Tuesday morning.
