LAHAN, May 28: Chaos broke out around 7:30 PM on Monday when 15 to 20 drones flew simultaneously over the Kamala BOP area along the Nepal-India border.

The drones reportedly entered Indian territory from the north, crossing over from Nepal. Indian security officials said the drones hovered in the area for about 40 minutes before flying back towards Nepal.

The Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) responded by issuing a high alert across the entire region and informing the Air Force headquarters in Darbhanga and Delhi (Operations) about the incident. Bibek Ojha, deputy commandant of the SSB's 48th Battalion, reported spotting 15-20 glowing unidentified objects flying in the sky on Monday night.

He said preliminary investigations showed those glowing unidentified objects came from Nepal. The investigation also confirmed that the drones circled over Indian territory before flying back. He added that Nepali security officials denied carrying out any such activity.

"We have already asked Nepal's security forces for information about these flying objects," he said. "But Nepali officials have denied using any kind of such equipment."

He said they informed the Air Force authorities in Delhi and Darbhanga about the incident. Security forces raised a high alert along the Nepal–India border, and Indian troops are closely monitoring the situation.

Meanwhile, Nepali officials acknowledged seeing lights in the sky over the border area.

“We observed lights in the sky over the border area on our side,” said Krishna Dhakal, DIG and Chief of the Armed Police Force in Madhes Province. “Indian border security officials mentioned it as well. We are investigating the matter.”

Spokesperson of the Armed Police Force Headquarters, DIG Kalidas Dhoubhadi, said he instructed officials to investigate the matter.

"We asked the DIG of Madhesh Province and the SP of Siraha to coordinate with the Chief District Officer and gather information on the incident," he said.
