KATHMANDU, Sept 10: United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres has stated that he is closely following the situation in Nepal and is deeply saddened by the loss of life during the recent protests in Nepal.



In a statement shared via social site X on Wednesday, Guterres urged all parties to act with restraint to prevent further escalation of violence. “I am deeply saddened by the loss of life. I urge for a thorough investigation and restraint to avoid further escalation of violence, and dialogue towards forging a constructive path forward,” he said.

Guterres also emphasized the importance of respecting human rights and upholding the rule of law, calling on authorities to ensure compliance with human rights laws.


He further stressed that protests must take place peacefully, with full respect for life and property.


The UN Secretary-General's remarks come amid growing concerns over recent adverse developments following the Gen Z demonstrations held on Monday and Tuesday (September 8 and 9).
