KATHMANDU, Sept 8: The ruling CPN-UML has adopted a special proposal on Lipulekh during its second statute convention.
The convention voiced opposition to the agreement between India and China to use the Lipulekh Pass as a trade corridor and called on both neighbouring countries to withdraw from the deal.

It also urged the government to pursue high-level diplomatic initiatives to resolve the issue and secure Nepal’s rights over the territory east of the Kali River. The party pressed for investment in infrastructure—such as roads, transport, education, healthcare, food supply and employment—to better integrate the residents of Chhangru and Tinkar, settlements near the disputed territory, into the national mainstream.
The convention commended Chairman and Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli for raising Nepal’s objections to the Lipulekh agreement during the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation summit and in his talks with Chinese President Xi Jinping. It noted that by asserting Nepal’s claim over Lipulekh on the basis of evidence, facts and maps, Oli had clearly conveyed the country’s sovereignty to the international community and upheld the nation’s dignity.
The meeting further concluded that Oli’s bilateral engagements with leaders of Russia and other countries, along with the commitments expressed during those discussions, had strengthened Nepal’s international standing.
The convention, which concluded on Sunday, also endorsed a 29-point contemporary proposal.
