KATHMANDU, April 55: Thakur Gaire, a Member of Parliament from the ruling party CPN-UML, has demanded action against former King Gyanendra Shah and his press secretary, Phani Raj Pathak.
According to MP Gaire, Pathak, in his capacity as press secretary, issued a condolence statement on Saturday. He drew the government's attention to the statement, which read, “A condolence message from Shree Paanch Maharajadhiraj Gyanendra Bir Bikram Shah Dev.”
Freedom of press means freedom in country: NC General Secretary...

“A statement issued under the name of press Secretary Phanindra Pathak had a headline that read—‘A condolence message from Shree Paanch Maharajadhiraj Gyanendra Bir Bikram Shah Dev’ I would like to draw the government’s attention to this,” MP Gaire said.
“In Nepal’s current constitution and system, where does the title ‘His Majesty King Gyanendra Bir Bikram Shah Dev’ exist? How can such a phrase be written? How was it even possible? Is this allowed or not? Is it permissible to mock the supremacy of Parliament, the supremacy of the Constitution, and the rule of law?” he questioned.
He also demanded that Pathak, who is named as the press secretary of Shah, and Gyanendra Bir Bikram Shah himself—who issued the condolence message—be immediately prosecuted in accordance with Nepal's Constitution and laws.
