KATHMANDU, July 4: Shankar Pokharel, General Secretary of the CPN-UML, has instructed leaders from Karnali Province to concentrate on the upcoming party statute convention.
In a virtual meeting held on Thursday at the UML headquarters in Chyasal, Lalitpur, Pokharel addressed UML Politburo members, central committee members, provincial and district committee officials representing Karnali.

He urged them to avoid distractions related to party leadership and instead focus entirely on the statute convention. “The upcoming statute convention will decide the party’s policies and constitution. Therefore, committees at the provincial, district, municipal, ward, and local levels should organize extensive discussions and submit reports through the organizational structure accordingly,” said Pokharel. “Based on suggestions from all levels, the party will determine future policies, constitution, and leadership selection criteria.”
He also advised leaders not to trust social media and emphasized the importance of maintaining party unity.
In the meeting, UML Standing Committee member and Karnali Province in-charge Gorakh Bahadur Bogati highlighted the enthusiastic work in Karnali despite challenging geography, including membership renewal and strengthening internal organization.
Karnali Province Committee Chair for the party Gulab Jung Shah stressed that promoting the positive work of the UML-led federal and provincial governments and inspiring hope among citizens is a key responsibility at present.
