Two siblings die in Kapilvastu gas cylinder fire

A brother and sister lost their lives in a fire caused by a gas leak while cooking at their home in Jayanagar of Shuddhodhan Rural Municipality-5, Kapilvastu.

KAPILVASTU, May 26: A brother and sister lost their lives in a fire caused by a gas leak while cooking at their home in Jayanagar of Shuddhodhan Rural Municipality-5, Kapilvastu.



According to Superintendent of Police Niranjan Dutta Bhatta, the fire broke out on Sunday evening after the gas regulator malfunctioned during cooking. The gas had leaked into a nearby shed, triggering a fire that severely injured 18-year-old Sonam Yadav and her 25-year-old brother Shiva Kumar Yadav.

Both were rushed to Universal Medical College in Bhairahawa for treatment. Sonam died during treatment in Bhairahawa, while Shiva Kmar passed away on the way to Gorakhpur, India.


Sonam was a 10th-grade student at National Secondary School, Murphutwa. Following her death, the school declared a mourning holiday on Monday, Principal Lalchanda Pandey said. The bodies have been kept at Bhim Hospital, Bhairahawa.
