KATHMANDU, Sep 7 – Two Nepali nurses were killed in a road accident in Melbourne, Australia, on Thursday night while trying to help an injured kangaroo on the roadside.
The deceased have been identified as Sarala Khadka and Aruja Suwal, both 30, inseparable friends and nurses working together at Alfred Hospital. On the night of the accident, they were on their way home after celebrating Suwal’s 30th birthday when tragedy struck, according to a report by 7News.
Just hours earlier, Khadka had shared a heartfelt Facebook post and pictures of the birthday celebration calling Suwal her “sister” and lifelong confidante.

The incident occurred near Craigieburn, in the northern part of Melbourne, on the Hume Highway.
According to local police, the accident happened when the pair stopped their car to assist an injured kangaroo and were fatally struck by another vehicle. According to police the vehicle swerved to avoid their car and hit them at high speed. The driver remained at the scene until police arrived and assisted.
One nurse died at the scene, and the other passed away later in the hospital, authorities confirmed.
Police have launched an investigation, suspecting the crash may have occurred because the speeding vehicle failed to notice the stopped car ahead in the darkness.
