Two girls drown, one boy missing while swimming in Bheri river

Two girls have reportedly drowned and a boy remains missing after they went swimming in the Bheri River in Jajarkot district on Friday afternoon.

KATHMANDU, June 7: Two girls have reportedly drowned and a boy remains missing after they went swimming in the Bheri River in Jajarkot district on Friday afternoon.



According to DSP Basanta Kumar Sharma of the Jajarkot District Police Office, the incident occurred in Manmai, Nalagadh Municipality-8, where the three children had gone to swim. The deceased have been identified as Bhagwati Nepali, 16, daughter of Tek Bahadur Nepali, and Asha Kusari, 12, daughter of Surendra Kusari, both residents of Manmai.

Mahesh Kusari, 10, Asha’s brother, is still missing. Locals rescued Bhagwati from the river and rushed her to Aathbiskot Municipal Hospital, but she was pronounced dead during treatment. Asha’s body was also later recovered.


Search efforts are ongoing to locate the missing boy, police said.
