KATHMANDU, Aug 28: “I won’t let the law punish me, I won’t end up in jail… I will leave this world myself so that history remembers what love is.” These were among the last words of Laxman Paswan, who, in a confessional video, admitted to killing his long-time girlfriend before dousing himself in diesel and setting himself on fire on Wednesday morning.
Critically injured, Paswan was first rushed to a local hospital in Madhav Narayan Municipality, Rautahat, and later transferred to the Nepal Cleft and Burn Center in Kirtipur for treatment. Despite medical efforts, he succumbed to his injuries in the evening. Locals discovered him attempting self-immolation in a mango grove and immediately alerted the police.
SP Apil Bohora of the Kathmandu Police Range told Republica that Paswan died at the Nepal Cleft and Burn Hospital. Witnesses reported that despite severe burns over his head and about 60 percent of his body, he was conscious when found. Social media footage shows him being assisted by others while walking to the hospital.

In his final video posted on his social media account, Paswan confessed to killing 30-year-old Ruby Devi Sah, whose body was found inside a suitcase in Rautahat on August 24, a day after the murder.
Paswan, who had been in a long-term relationship with Ruby, claimed in the 10-minute confession that Ruby had asked him to end her life. He also accused Ruby’s mother and relatives of pressuring them to part ways.
“I loved her since class six, and we married at the Sarlahi district court in class 10. But our families forced us apart. I was frustrated… I had gone insane. She repeatedly asked me to kill her,” Paswan said, appearing calm in the video.
After their families intervened, Ruby was married to another man. In the video, Paswan claimed she continued to suffer and accused her mother of coercing her for financial gain, and alleged sexual harassment by her brother-in-law.
Paswan did not explain the method of killing. Police confirmed that Ruby’s body, when found, was intact inside the suitcase with no visible injuries.
