Top leaders fail to reach consensus, parliamentary deadlock continues

The discussion held at the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers in Singha Durbar aimed to resolve the ongoing parliamentary deadlock. However, no agreement was reached, according to Maoist Chief Whip Hit Raj Pandey.

KATHMANDU, June 2: A high-level meeting between Prime Minister and UML Chair KP Sharma Oli, Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba, and Maoist Centre Chair Pushpa Kamal Dahal ended inconclusively on Monday evening.



The discussion held at the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers in Singha Durbar aimed to resolve the ongoing parliamentary deadlock. However, no agreement was reached, according to Maoist Chief Whip Hit Raj Pandey.

"The talks focused on how to move past the deadlock and the activities of regressive forces. Discussions were held but no concrete decision was made," Pandey said.


He reiterated the opposition’s demand for Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak’s resignation. "We remain firm on our stance and need to further consult with other opposition parties," he added.


Along with the Maoist Centre, Rastriya Swatantra Party, Rastriya Prajatantra Party, and CPN (Unified Socialist) have also demanded Lekhak’s resignation.


Parliament is scheduled to meet again on Tuesday. Prime Minister Oli had hoped to resolve the impasse beforehand, but with Monday’s meeting ending without a breakthrough, his effort remains unsuccessful.
