Top Bahadur in police contact, Gore still at large

Rayamajhi, who has been implicated in the Bhutanese refugee scam and was on judicial remand, escaped from prison on Tuesday night during a commotion but later informed security agencies over the phone that he would return.

KATHMANDU, Sept 11: Among the prisoners who escaped from Sundhara Central Prison in Kathmandu, Top Bahadur Rayamajhi has come into contact with the police and said he will return. However, gold smuggling accused Chudamani Upreti, also known as ‘Gore,’ remains at large.

Rayamajhi, who has been implicated in the Bhutanese refugee scam and was on judicial remand, escaped from prison on Tuesday night during a commotion but later informed security agencies over the phone that he would return. 


Meanwhile, police have taken control of 52 inmates who escaped from Gaur Prison and sent them back. Out of the total 291 inmates at Gaur Prison, all but 24 had fled after breaking out. Of those, 35 escapees were recaptured by security personnel from different locations in Rautahat and returned to prison.
