Mahato’s friends, however, escaped to the village unhurt. The wild cat had attacked them at around 8 am. A team of the park staff and local grass cutters, later, recovered his mutilated body.

The youth’s body has been sent to the Bharatpur Hospital for post-mortem, the Chitwan police, who were not aware about the incident before 11 am, said.

Locals residing in the neighborhood go to the park daily to collect fodders and firewood. Every year, several people lose their life in attacks by wild beasts including tigers, elephants, and rhinos in the jungle.
